About Carrie Lane
I have been a career coach, starting as a college distance-running coach, 22 years ago. I then became a college throws coach, where I gained invaluable knowledge of how to use strength, speed, and power training to enhance performance. I have coached at 3 IAAF World Track and Field Championships and 1 Olympic Final. From 2006-09, I was the personal coach for Olympic gold medalist shot putter, Adam Nelson. In 2007, Adam won a silver medal in the 2007 IAAF World Championships. In 2008 he threw the farthest shot put throw in the world. I also coached Chad Wright, the NCAA Champion in the men’s discus in 2012 and the Jamaican national champion in 2013 and 2014. I have coached for 22 years at the NCAA Division I level, with stints at the University of Virginia, the University of Nebraska, and currently at the University of Wyoming. My athletes achieved 24 NCAA First Team (top 8 in the nation) All American Awards, 4 Big Ten championships, and 9 ACC championships.
I have found a great balance in combining my knowledge of speed/power training, endurance training, and rehab progressions as I have worked with athletes of all abilities from high school to post-collegiate runners to weekend warriors. I design strength and rehab programs for all of these athletes to keep them durable and performing at their highest levels.
I competed as a Division I distance runner at Marquette University. After college, I explored the “power” events, and competed post-collegiately as a hammer thrower. This unique athletic background gives me a keen understanding of both endurance-based training and strength and power- based training. I am also an instructor for the USTFCCCA Coaches’ Academy, where I teach other coaches about periodized training program design, weight training, biomechanics, and event-specific technique. When I'm not coaching, you can find me rock climbing all over Colorado and Wyoming.
