Carrie Lane - At a Glance
Carrie Lane Bio:
Carrie Lane started a career in NCAA track and field coaching 22 years ago. She quickly became one of the leading female throws coaches not just for women but men, as well. In a career dominated by male coaches, Carrie’s passion for research and immersing herself into the sport of throwing has advanced to one of the top in her field.
Carrie started her career in track and field as a distance runner at Marquette University, and after college naturally thought she would pursue a career coaching the endurance events. But after a couple of years of holding a stopwatch, she developed a desire to learn and understand more about the other athletes in the track and field events. She dove deep into the throwing events, particularly the shot put and hammer throw, spending all of her free time watching video, reading books, visiting other coaches, and even practicing the sport herself. Her tenacious curiosity and desire to gain expertise in this field led her down a unique career path. She has become one of the most successful female coaches of the throwing events in NCAA Division 1 sports. The success of her athletes that she coached at programs such as the University of Virginia and the University of Nebraska prove her rank. She has coached 24 NCAA First Team All- American athletes (the top 8 in the nation in their event). Her respect in the industry was proven when she was invited to the USA National Team as a coach for THREE World Championship Teams.
Her success continued, when she coached a professional male shot putter to a silver medal at the World Championships and then guided him to the 2008 Olympic Final. At the time, Carrie was the only female coach sitting in the coaches’ box for these events.
